Father's Day Ride Getaway

Father's Day Ride Getaway

Lets be honest, women can always use another handbag, cashmere sweater, jewelry or day at the spa. My point: women are easy to shop for. So when Mother's Day rolls around, there's a long list of gifts to choose from.

Men on the other hand, that's another story. I man isn't going to love if you get him another wallet. He's not going to love another polo shirt. To him, it's all the same. So, what do you get a man who has everything for Father's Day?

How about a bike ride along the Route of the Hiawatha?

Spokane's in Bloom!

Spokane's in Bloom!

We've been couped up long enough and it is now time to get out and enjoy some of the beauty of the northwest.  There's the "Gone with the Wind Garden" at 14815 N. River Park Lane in Nine Mile Falls or how about strolling through the "Days of Wine and Roses Garden" at 9125 N.

School Testing In Washington State

School Testing In Washington State

Test results show Washington high school students do well in reading and writing on statewide tests but fall short in science.

Of this year's tenth graders, only about half are passing the science assessment.

81 percent passed the reading test on their first try and nearly 84 percent passed the writing test.

Results from math tests will be released in August.

The high school proficiency exam is one of four state requirements for graduation.

RoadCheck 2011

RoadCheck 2011

Washington State patrol troopers and inspectors checked nearly 12 hundred commercial vehicles during last week's three-day "RoadCheck 2011."

The patrol says they issued nearly 18 hundred tickets for violations, took 214 vehicles out of service for safety violations and removed 43 drivers from behind the wheel, mostly for record of duty violations.

One driver was arrested for drunken driving and two had suspended licenses.

Geese Study

Geese Study

Washington Fish and Wildlife biologists and volunteers are putting leg bands on a thousand Canada geese to study population trends in Eastern Washington.

Waterfowl specialist Mikal Moore says they're trying to understand why nesting is declining in rural areas while complaints about urban geese have been rising.

The banding project began this week and continues through next Tuesday. Geese are currently easy to catch because they are molting and unable to fly.

Musical Election Council Chairs in Airway Heights

Barron Williamson's name appears twice on the 2011 candidate filings for Spokane County. That's because he originally filed for Airway Heights Council Position No.6 and the next day withdrew from the position. He later filed for another council position in Airway Heights, this time position No.3 against the incumbent Deputy Mayor, Charlotte Lawrence.

"I filed on Thursday night because I didn't think anyone was going to run," Williamson said. He continued, "Why run against somebody if there's nobody running in position 6?" Williamson said.
