ATV safety courses provide valuable skills to keep you safe

ATV safety courses provide valuable skills to keep you safe

In last two weeks Eastern Washington and North Idaho have seen over five ATV accidents including one death in the LC Valley last week. While ATV riding is fun, it's important to learn proper technique to remain safe.

“We think it takes special skills to ride an ATV,” says Dale Stevens, a licensed ATV safety instructor with the ATV Safety Institute. ASI is a non-profit sponsored by the all the major ATV manufacturers. Instructors like Stevens teach regular safety classes to educate riders on proper technique, safety skills and the responsibilities that come with owning and riding ATVs.

After taking his course many riders tell Stevens that they didn't know what a work out riding is and that they expected it to be easier. Stevens says that a lot of people expect ATVs to be like riding a couch on wheels but it that it takes a lot of physical effort and knowledge of how ATVs operate to remain safe while riding.

Wanted: Hoopfest Volunteers

Wanted: Hoopfest Volunteers

On Hoopfest weekend thousands will be in Downtown Spokane to be a part of the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the world. It takes a lot of planning and organization to run an event sporting over 7,000 teams, 250,000 players and 456 courts and have it go smoothly. But mostly it takes an army of volunteers and Hoopfest is already recruiting.

Last year over 2,500 volunteers helped make the event happen and this year organizers are half way to filling the volunteer ranks. Anyone can be involved, whether you have basketball experience or not. From court monitors to merchandise sales to general clean up there is a job for everyone.

Race of Wits

Race of Wits

Bloomsday is just around the corner and even though the road race isn't until May competitors in the Cooperate Cup competition are already racing...at least for the title of best team name.

Bloomsday sponsors and organizers announced this year's top team names today. They have shortened the list from 300 to 25 with the top three slated to be announced after Bloomsday in the Inlander Souvenir Results Booklet. The first place team receives a plaque and will be honored guests at the annual awards luncheon. The Spokane Fire Department won last year's battle of wits sporting "Feeling the Burn" as their team name.

Less than 900 tickets remain for Coca-Cola Chiefs season finale

Less than 900 tickets remain for Coca-Cola Chiefs season finale

The Spokane Chiefs have announced that less than 900 tickets remain for Friday night's Coca-Cola Regular Season Finale versus the Tri-City Americans.

Tickets to all home games, including the first two games of the WHL Playoffs on Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd, are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.

Friday night's game will be the first half of a home-and-home series with Tri-City as the two will play in Kennewick on Saturday night. The two games will help decide who holds home ice advantage in their playoff series against each other. Spokane currently leads Tri-City for the fourth spot by two points, 86-84. If the two teams remain equal in points then wins would determine the higher seed, which Spokane leads by two, 42-40. Both teams play road games on Sunday night to close out the regular season.
