Alaska Adds Flights To Seattle, Boise

Alaska Airlines announced Thursday that it's adding two new daily flights from Spokane to Seattle and Boise.  The service begins daily starting January 8, 2012.

The announcement comes just days after Southwest Airlines announced it would discontinue its service between Spokane and Seattle starting in January.

Alaska Airlines representatives said they were excited to expand service in the Pacific Northwest.

Southwest Airlines to end Spokane-Seattle flights

Southwest Airlines is getting rid of four flights each day between Seattle and Spokane starting Jan. 8.

This is part of a package of schedule changes that will result in 102 fewer flights in a cost-cutting move.

There will be no direct flights between Spokane and Seattle on Southwest.

Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air still have flights.

Spokane passengers will still be able to get to Southwest destinations through Portland and other hub cities such as Denver and Phoenix.

Inland Northwest Honor Flight is making it's third trip of 2011 this Friday July 15 at 11:55. Vets will be gathering at the Spokane Airport about 10:30 am...they will return Sunday July 17 at 4:20 in the afternoon. INWHF will be making a special presentation on Friday July 15 to the family of Pvt. Herman Sturmer whose remains were recently returned to Spokane. Inland Northwest Honor Flight continues to honor our living World War II vets for their sacrifices and especially those who paid the ultimate price--giving their lives to protect our freedoms.

RoadCheck 2011

Washington State patrol troopers and inspectors checked nearly 12 hundred commercial vehicles during last week's three-day "RoadCheck 2011."

The patrol says they issued nearly 18 hundred tickets for violations, took 214 vehicles out of service for safety violations and removed 43 drivers from behind the wheel, mostly for record of duty violations.

One driver was arrested for drunken driving and two had suspended licenses.

United Personnel Exit the Airport Leaving Flight Passengers Stuck in the Plane

After traveling all day with her two very young grandsons, one passenger of United Airlines flight 583 landed early into Spokane International Airport just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7th. Her husband arrived to the airport and saw that his wife's flight was early on the reader board. He noted a group of United personnel leaving the airport.

At this point, the plane was still sitting on the runway. The pilot came on the intercom and said: "Ah, this has never happened to me in the 21-years I've been flying. I apologize. We don't have anyone here to tug us to the gate."

WSU Sleep Researcher to Testify in Favor of Naps

The WSU Director of the Sleep and Performance Research Center tells Congress Tuesday why air traffic controllers need more sleep.  Dr. Gregory Belenky is one of four experts who were asked to testify before the U.S. Senate Aviation Committee.  Recent reports of air traffic controllers falling asleep on the job have brought this issue into the public's eye.  Belenky says naps may be the best way for air traffic controllers to battle fatigue.

"Local Bike/Ped Safety Projects Receive Funding"

Many communities could see some updates to their pedestrian and bicycle safety projects funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation . It will still be a couple of years before the projects are built and completed but areas of the City of Spokane, Spokane County and Airway Heights will see a chunk of that cash.
