Law Enforcement Cracks Down On Parent Drivers

Making sure our children are buckled into their car seats correctly is essential in ensuring their safety.  That's why local law enforcement agencies are making sure parents are buckling their kids in accordance with Washington law.  The Spokane County Target Zero Task Force is increasing it's child car seat emphasis patrols, making sure drivers are following the laws.

Washington Law says:

- Child ages 0 to at least 12 months and at least 20 pounds use a rear-facing infant seat.  New recommendations say children under 24 months should remain rear-facing.

Safer Railroad Crossing in Medical Lake

Safer Railroad Crossing in Medical Lake

A heavily used railroad crossing in Medical Lake will soon be much safer for drivers thanks to a state grant.

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission recently announced it will use a $5,000 grant to make significant upgrades to the railroad crossing on State Route 902 near Medical Lake.

The improvements include upgrading warning signals, new cantilevered-mounted lights and cross buck signs.

The upgrades will make it easier for motorists to know when a train is approaching.  Nearly 4,000 drivers cross over the tracks everyday.
